How did the Silhouette come to be.....
Well, the Ice Silhouette was established when the Ice Shadow Adult team had an influx of new members and Head Coach, Colleen Laferierre found it necessary to break the ladies into two groups, and the Ice Silhouette was created. The Ice Silhouette Masters team became the very first and the only Masters team in the BC/Yukon Section in 2000. The team was originally affiliated with the Cloverdale Figure Skating Club and skated every Friday Morning out of the Cloverdale arena. For the first few seasons there were only 1 or 2 other teams to compete against in the Region, however with the growing popularity of the Sport of Synchronized skating, the team numbers are now increasing.
The Ice Silhouette switched it's affiliation in 2004 and now is a part of the North Surrey Skating Club and still skates on Friday mornings, but now out of the Surrey Leisure Center in the Fleetwood neighbourhood of Surrey. Our Team has changed and evolved over the seasons. However, our goal every season remains the same and that is to enjoy ourselves and do our best at the various competitions and exhibitions that we participate in. Our team has always consisted of skaters with a variety of ages and skill levels. We are wives, moms, grandmothers, nurses, doctors, healthcare workers, accountants -- you name it we probably have someone with that experience on our team !!! Some of members have only learned to skate as Adults and others are returning to skating after family and work commitments have subsided. Some of us have competed in our younger days, others have only skated recreationally at public skating sessions until now. We are all different ages, shapes and sizes, but we all LOVE to skate. We have had skaters as young as 19 and our oldest registered skaters have been in their 60's. Our average age is usually in the mid 40's !!!
Through the years we have earned a variety medals at the various competitions each season.
In 2007 we were honoured with the "Millennium Cup" at the BC/YT Open section -- This award is given to the team that most exemplifies the "spirit of the sport" and is voted on by all the participating teams at the competition. This award means more than any medal because it is awarded by our peers. We are proud to have been recognized for our dedication to the sport of Synchronized Skating. We also won Bronze medal Jan 19/07 BC Coast Regional Chilliwack
The Ice Silhouette are always ready to welcome new team members - please feel free to contact our team manager for more information or just come on down to a practice session any Friday morning between 9:30 and 11am at the Fleetwood arena from Sept. to March -- Regular season sessions or come out and join us for our Spring Synchro Skills Session that normally runs from April - June.
